On-Site F-Gas Training

What F-Gas Training is

F-Gas training is a legal requirement for anyone working with fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) in vehicle air conditioning systems.

For vehicle depollution professionals, this means completing an accredited f gas course. The course covers the safe recovery, handling, and disposal of refrigerants, ensuring your work complies with the UK F-Gas Regulations.

Holding a valid f gas certification is essential. The Environment Agency conducts spot checks at depollution sites, and operating without certified staff can result in serious penalties, like fines and even prison sentences.

Completing recognised fgas training keeps your business in compliance with UK regulations while showing your commitment to responsible, environmentally sound ELV vehicle processing.

Who F-Gas Training and F-Gas Certification is for

Anyone who handles refrigerants as part of their work must undergo F-Gas training and hold a valid fgas certification. In the vehicle depollution sector, this includes depollution technicians, salvage yard operators, and end-of-life vehicle (ELV) processors.

The UK F-Gas Regulations place the responsibility on ELV site operators to use only certified personnel, and the Environment Agency has the power to issue fixed penalty notices and prosecutions for non-compliance.

What to expect

BEFORE THE DAY

Pre-course learning

The F-Gas course is suitable for anyone working in the ELV recycling / depollution industry understanding of the industry.

Candidates receive City & Guilds workbooks before the course, allowing them to study in advance and prepare for both the online exam and practical assessment with confidence — even with limited prior experience.

We strongly encourage all candidates to review the materials thoroughly before attending, as this helps improve pass rates and avoids the time or costs of retesting.

If you have any concerns, please contact us for additional support. We’re happy to answer any questions.

ON THE DAY

What to bring

As this is a UK qualification, candidates must prove they are UK residents and will need to bring valid ID, such as a driving licence, passport, or ID card.

Course structure

  • Practical Session: Candidates will first complete the practical session first, which takes approximately. This includes demonstrating safe gas recovery from a vehicle.
  • Online Exam: After the practical session, candidates will take the online exam, which they have 30 minutes to complete. A reliable internet connection is essential for this step.
  • Duration: The on-site course takes approximately 2-3 hours in total.

AFTER THE DAY

Your F-Gas Certification

Candidates receive their results on the day and can begin working with F-Gas while they wait for the certificate to arrive.

When it does come through, we advise you to store it in a safe place in your office or frame it and hang it on a wall, to comply with inspections from the Environment Agency.

The certificate belongs to the person named on it, rather than the company, and the employee can take it with them if they change companies.

We recommend displaying them in your office or keeping them in an easily accessible location. The Environment Agency conducts spot checks, particularly at the beginning of the year, and may ask you to produce them at short notice.
